JOHN APPLETON,
PARTNER AT TEARFUND
John is a disciple of Jesus Christ. Married to Vanessa for 24 years and has two teenage sons, Harvey and Chip.
Born in Nigeria in 1966 this seemed to help set the course for John’s life. A patchy history of academic failure and a slow start to his career in IT sales. Lessons learnt, in 1994 this all changed when John flourished and went on to great success, leading to many awards as a top achiever in Cisco.
In 2005 a eureka moment meant John’s passion for Africa was re-awakened and this led to 8 visits to Kenya over 6 years, including leading 4 groups of volunteers. In 2011 John made the big decision to move from the corporate world to follow his passion to play his part in impacting poverty particularly in the developing world.
John is now a partnerships executive in Tearfund, and delighted to be part of an incredible organisation committed to helping people in poverty all around the world find sustainable solutions through the local church. Living in the North Cotswolds, John has a reputation for a lively sense of humour and particularly loud shirts.
